Why we built this
In 2022, Alex was Head of Digital at a large UK university preparing for a PSBAR audit. The estate had 14 subdomains, six LMS platforms inherited through mergers, and twelve years of uploaded PDFs. The accessibility team had two people and a spreadsheet.
The tools available at the time could scan a single website — slowly. None could touch LMS content, videos, or PDFs at scale. The team spent three months manually sampling 0.3% of the estate and still faced a tribunal complaint.
Alex reached out to Priya, who had spent a decade building accessibility testing infrastructure at a major browser vendor. They spent six months validating the problem with Accessibility Officers at 40 institutions across the UK, US, and Australia.
The finding was consistent: universities knew they had a problem. They had no scalable way to measure it, evidence it, or fix it. That gap is what Edro exists to close.
